Our new campaign shines a light on the hidden struggles of winter

As temperatures drop and the nights draw in, West Central London Mind has launched a new campaign, the Weight of Winter, to shine a light on the unseen struggles that the colder months can bring.

For some, winter brings festive joy and celebrations. But for many others, it can feel heavy and overwhelming. Behind closed doors, people across our communities are facing loneliness, financial stress, burnout, grief, or mental health challenges that don’t pause for the holidays.

The impact of winter on mental health is clear:

  • 1 in 5 UK workers experience burnout over the festive period
  • 48% of adults feel lonelier during the winter months than at any other time of year
  • 3 in 10 people say their mental health declines over Christmas due to financial, social, and family pressures
  • 1 million working hours are lost each year to Seasonal Affective Disorder

Our Weight of Winter campaign reminds everyone that no one should carry these pressures alone.

Last year, we supported more than 22,000 people across Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Wandsworth, and Brent and the demand for support continues to rise.

Join the conversation on social media using #TheWeightOfWinter. And follow us on: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Tiktok.
