How our Suicide Bereavement Service supports those affected by suicide

At West Central London Mind, we know that the impact of suicide can be profound and far-reaching. Our Suicide Bereavement Support Service is here to help anyone affected by a bereavement by suicide, whether you are a family member, friend, colleague, professional, or even someone who witnessed or reported the incident. Our service is available to residents in boroughs across both North-West and South-West London.

Commissioned by the North-West and South-West London Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), this specialist service is designed to offer timely, compassionate support. Once we are contacted, we aim to reach out to those affected within 72 hours. From that point on, we provide open-ended, personalised support for as long as it’s needed.

In a powerful new video series created for Suicide Prevention Day (10th September), 7 of our clients have generously shared their stories to illustrate the importance of the service. Through their own words, they reflect on the grief of losing a loved one and how the support they received made a life-changing difference.

Because of the service I have received, I am still here today.

It was just brilliant from the first moment, it felt like that person that was there for me, and me alone.

The bereavement officer got in touch, and I thought ‘Wow, this is good’ because I was looking for someone to talk to.

I was there to be supported, and I felt that very much.

This is the organisation that has made a difference for me.

We are incredibly grateful to those who have shared their experiences so that others might feel less alone. These stories remind us that support is available and just how crucial it is to reach out for support, even if it feels extremely difficult.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our clients for their honesty and courage in telling their stories. And thanks to Ryan Murphy for filming and editing, and to Duygu Cumert for conducting the interviews with such care and sensitivity.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a bereavement by suicide, please know that support is available. If you want to get in contact with the service, please email [email protected]
